I just sent this in to them:
An Open Letter to President Obama and House Speaker Boehner:
All of us are, first and foremost, Americans. We are not Democrats, or Republicans, or conservatives or liberals. Our first identity, and our first loyalty, should be to our country. That is the one ideal and practical identity we all share. We are all joined in this common goal to life our nation out of the morass of individual squabbling, and into the ideal and dream of a realized democratic union.
You are also both religious men, although our country also protects the sacred right of each individual to worship or not worship as each individual sees fit. “In God We Trust” is on every bill that is printed, every coin that is stamped.
Therefore, I implore both of you to stop this impasse, put God and Country first, and work together to resolve this current budget and debt ceiling crisis. Pray together, first and foremost. Then if necessary find a top national professional mediator to help work these things out. Perhaps calling in Mr. Bill Clinton and Mr. Newt Gingrich, who lived through the last government shutdown, might help. They may have some unique insights into how to resolve our differences. Whatever it takes, let’s get it done, and soon, or we all risk unimaginable economic and fiscal damage to our country and our world.
We are all, as a nation, looking to you both to move us out of this current difficulty. I pray and trust that God and wisdom will help you both soon do just that. It’s time. Thank you both for your service to our beloved country, and for your help in moving us forward at this important moment in our collective history.
Best wishes,
