Cupcakes Film

Last night I saw a very sweet, fun film Cupcakes screened as part of the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival.  It was light, frothy, genuinely funny and original.  Directed by Israeli director Eytan Fox, the film is a musical comedy about a bunch of neighbors who spontaneously compose an infectious pop song to cheer up one of their own.  One of them enters the cell phone video of the song to an international TV song contest show, and to everyone’s surprise, the song is chosen to represent Israel in the finals competition in Paris.  It’s a fun, uplifting story that will have you smiling all the way home from the theatre.

The LA Jewish Film Festival is a fascinating, ongoing film festival that highlights outstanding feature films, documentaries, short films, and panel discussions.  Directed by Hilary Helstein, herself a talented filmmaker, this is their ninth year and runs until May 8th.   Tickets are still available, for more information visit lajfilmfest.org.
