This is a letter I just emailed and Faxed to President Obama at the White House this morning:
August 7, 2013
Dear President Obama,
I am strongly compelled to write to you this morning because I am saddened and shocked by your recent decision to cancel the meeting with Russia's President Vladimir Putin in September in Moscow. No matter how bad things may get between our two countries, it is vital to keep the lines of communication open. Otherwise we risk heading into another era of a dangerous and frightening Cold War, which would be most foolhardy.
I urge you to immediately reconsider your cancellation. Perhaps you could both meet on neutral ground, such as Sweden, if that is an issue.
I know Mr. Edward Snowden has not made things easy for foreign relations with Russia and other countries lately, but please do not let one individual's action put the entire world's peaceful existence in jeopardy.
You may know the saying, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." I think it would be much wiser to take that route, rather than cutting yourself off at this most delicate time in Russian/United States relations.
Thank you for your tireless service to our country. My very best to you and your charming family.
