Sadly the AFI FEST 2013 is now over, however last night I saw a terrific film, B for Boy, about a successful and independent Nigerian woman who gradually succumbs to the social pressure and negativity from not being able to produce a male heir. This film is complex and engaging, and won two awards at AFI this year: the Audience Award, and the Breakthrough Award. Keep an eye out for it!
AFI also has an excellent free workshop for women filmmakers coming up, you will learn how to produce a short film, and they will provide equipment, etc. at no cost. Their hope is to increase the number of working women directors in Hollywood. For more information about this and the many other fine offerings at AFI, visit afi.com, and tell them the Shiksa of Hollywood sent you!
